DJ Dayhota (Shannon Ialongo) began her career spinning at the infamous 2418 North Ave. parties in Chicago’s artsy Wicker Park/Bucktown community in 1995. Through this outlet, she was able to cut her teeth in front of the city’s elite while showcasing her energetic style. She soon played alongside and learned from the likes of Derrick Carter, Heather and Diz, forging friendships that would prove integral in her development as a premier talent.

During the same period, Dayhota came in contact with Colette, and the two, along with Heather and Lady D, formed the all-female DJ collective SuperJane. Feeling that there were no real opportunities for female DJ’s in the industry at the time, the women took it upon themselves to create those needed opportunities so that other women could soon follow. Their impression on the House Music industry can only be described as tremendous both in Chicago and abroad.

The stage was set for the women of SuperJane to see the world, and Dayhota has done her part to spread her passion globally. She has played all across the country at some of the hottest spots around, such as Centro-Fly and The Limelight in NYC, Motor in Detroit, Rain in Las Vegas, Sno-Drift in San Francisco and Level in South Beach (Miami). Her sound has graced the international speakers at top-flite venues like Batofar in Paris, Zapata and The Lab in Germany, Macarena in Barcelona, Seven in Melbourne and The Underground Café in Sydney. In 2000, SuperJane went on its first national tour, with a subsequent mini-tour sponsored by PURE in January 2002 covering Germany and Spain.

Dayhota has held many solid residencies at Chicago’s best clubs past and present, like Transit, Madbar, Karma, Crobar, Smartbar and RedNoFive. She has focused moreso on traveling as of late, choosing to rock dance floors all over the world and expanding her ever-growing fanbase.

Dayhota recently finished “Two Bitches On Tour”, which traveled nationally with 611 Records’ Carl Michaels and sponsored by Mixer Magazine. This is the same acclaimed magazine that voted Dayhota as one of the Top 100 DJ’s in the country for 2002!! Features have also been written on her in XLR8R (cover story), Spin, Jane and Velocity magazines. A media darling is in the making!!

Dayhota has recently made the move from Chicago to Toronto, looking to expand her involvement in music in both the club and production communities. Also, Dayhota has been doing A/R work for mixconnection’s world reknown label Moody Records. She is also in the studio, looking to throw her hat in the production ring in the very near future.

Coming from the birthplace of House Music, it’s incredible what DJ Dayhota has accomplished in the underground scene in a short period of time. Grouping ambition with talent, she will continue to make her mark. Look out for DJ Dayhota!!
